Before the quarantine of 2020, my last haircut was September 2019 (I think).\u00a0 After more than a year with me just pulling my hair back in a bun when I didn\u2019t want to be bothered with it my hair looked as tired as I was \u2013 dry, turning gray, frizzy, and simply out of control.\u00a0 I was also experiencing hair fall already because my hair was just too long and too heavy.\u00a0 I contemplated just cutting my hair myself, but I didn\u2019t want to get upset if my hair got messed up because of it.<\/p>\n

At my friend,\u00a0Janjan<\/a>\u2019s recommendation, I traveled almost 15 kilometers to try out Salon-O.\u00a0 I was iffy, at first because my hair is curly\/wavy, and my personal experience is that very few people know how to cut curly\/wavy hair properly.\u00a0 When the hairdresser does not know what he\/she is doing my hair misbehaves afterward by getting split ends, becoming stringy, etc.<\/p>\n

The Salon<\/h2>\n

This is what Salon-O looks like from the outside.\u00a0 The right side, starting from the doors, is the reception area, on the left is where the magic happens.\u00a0 At the back of the salon is the shampooing station.\u00a0 The main color scheme of the salon is black and white \u2013 the chairs are black and everything else is white, except for the products.\u00a0 They do not have their own parking spaces but street parking is allowed.\u00a0 We were able to park right in front of the store.<\/p>\n

Hair assessment<\/h2>\n

After the initial \u201chi and hello\u201d and a little \u201cgetting to know you\u201d Ms. O\u00a0(as Ms. Olive is often referred to)<\/em>\u00a0sat me down on a station and assessed my hair.<\/p>\n

Uncontrollable curls, dry ends\u00a0(but thankfully no split ends),\u00a0<\/em>uneven color, gray strands scattered here and there \u2026 oh, the horror!\u00a0 Hence, my often pulling my hair into a bun\u00a0(to hide my shame, j\/k!)<\/em><\/p>\n

Verdict, I need \u2026<\/p>\n

  1. coverage to hide the random gray hair.<\/li>\n
  2. treatment to put moisture back into my hair.<\/li>\n
  3. color, to even out my hair color.\u00a0 Ms. O chose a natural brown for me to match my roots.<\/li>\n
  4. hairstyling to make my hair more manageable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Disposables<\/h2>\n

    Before any of the treatments were started I was provided with a couple of disposable items \u2013 a plastic smock that is worn over your clothes and under their standard smock, and a face shield that is attached to your forehead after they wipe any sweat or oil off your forehead first. \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 A minimal fee of \u20b150 is charged for these items.<\/p>\n

    These items are provided in an effort to comply with the minimum requirement of the IATF to minimize the possibility of spreading illness\u00a0(like COVID-19)<\/em>.\u00a0 If the client does not want to pay for these items they can just go ahead and wear the one that they brought themselves, but it might get in the way of the haircut as most face shields are attached to glasses frames and hooked over the ears.<\/p>\n

    Fernan of Salon-O<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

    As with most hair treatments, it starts with a shampoo which I find very relaxing.\u00a0 Ms. O. did my gray coverage herself. My random gray hairs were not completely covered but most of them were, which was good enough for me. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

    Afterward, I was put in the very capable hands of their resident hairstylist, Fernan. A snip here, a snip there, several inches of my hair fell to the ground by my feet.\u00a0\u00a0He did a wonderful job cutting my hair!\u00a0 No wonder so many of their clients ask for him specifically.\u00a0 I am happy to find another hairstylist who knows what to do with curly hair aside from telling me to have it rebonded or straightened.<\/p>\n

    The entire process \u2013 from assessment, gray coverage, treatment, color, to final blow dry \u2013 only took a couple of hours.\u00a0 This is what my hair looked like after all that.<\/p>\n

    Transformation<\/h2>\n

    I thought the transformation was amazing! Definitely a big improvement for me.\u00a0 In addition, it is very easy to maintain with an ionic brush.\u00a0 Blow drying my hair has always been hit and miss for me, especially when my hair was extra-long.\u00a0 Purchasing an ionic brush was one of my best hair care purchases. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

    Who would have thought I could go from this to this?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
